Our Torii gate artisan keycap was inspired by the traditional Japanese gate - Torii. In Japanese culture, the Torii gate is considered the symbolic gate to the spiritual world and is associated with the legend of the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami. Legend has it that after the intense conflicts with her brother, the storm god Susanowo due to this man’s sabotage of the habitat and killing a maidservant in a drunken state, Amaterasu hit the roof and hid in the mountains. The Amanoiwato cave made the whole world fall into darkness.
After making great attempts, her family succeeded in bringing her out of the cave. The gods placed the roosters on the top of the mistletoe, and when they crowded, Amaterasu heard the chaos outside, so she popped his face out of the cave, allowing sunlight to return to the world. That mistletoe is the origin of the Torii gate in Japanese Shinto.
This gate still stands firmly without being buried in the ground. Due to the fact that it is built on the sea, this Torii gate is hidden in the seawater according to the flow of the ebb tide creating one of the most breath-taking and famous scenes in Japan.
The existence of the bright red Torii gate is the most vivid proof of the important role Shinto plays in Japanese culture. For Japanese people, all things are gods, and they all contain a soul with all kinds of emotions. That's the reason for their gratitude and respect towards nature, peace, and simplicity of which the Torii gates are the greatest
